Real Madrid limped over the line in their last-16 Copa del Rey tie with Leganes but were given a scare by Middlesbrough loanee Martin Braithwaite.
The forward scored his first goal for Leganes in the first half and Real Madrid were left time-wasting to thanking keeper Keylor Navas's shot-stopping for their place in the quarter-finals. There was relief for coach Santiago Solari who had spent the night desperately juggling formations and personnel to get the win.
Isco started the game but was hauled off after 67 disappointing minutes. And 19-year-old Brahim Diaz hit the post late on after coming on as a substitute.
