Celtic legend Pat Bonner believes Brendan Rodgers and chief executive Peter Lawwell will be the men blamed by fans if they fail to deliver the much-sought after 'ten-in-a-row'.

Rodgers, who Sportsmail revealed is favourite to replace Claude Puel at Leicester, has already won a place in the Parkhead pantheon following his historic back-to-back Trebles - the first of them without losing a game - and then equalling Rangers' record of seven successive domestic trophies.

Yet, eight points dropped away from home in December including, crucially, a 1-0 defeat by Rangers at Ibrox has left Celtic ahead of Steven Gerrard's side only on goal difference at the top of the Premiership - albeit they do have a game in hand.

Given Celtic's financial dominance, Bonner insisted the Parkhead faithful won't accept anything other than setting a new record for consecutive championships.

'The fans won't forgive them - Peter Lawwell more than Brendan, probably - if they don't win ten in a row,' said the former goalkeeper, who made 641 appearances for the club.

'Given the position of strength they were working from and how close they are to doing it.

'Most Celtic supporters won't remember Jock Stein's nine in a row but they'll have lived through Rangers equalling it and now they want to see it surpassed.
