Mata heard that a member of the U-12 team at Wythenshawe Town FC had been going through a difficult time, after his father passed away last year. The United midfielder promised that he would come to one of the team's training sessions and present the youngster with a shirt. Mata did that this week and even took the opportunity to join in with training. The Spaniard previously received widespread acclaim for setting up the Common Goal initiative, which sees footballers donate at least 1 per cent of their wages to charity. Juan Mata has received much praise for the work that he has done off the pitch Players such as Bayern Munich's Mats Hummels and Juventus' Giorgio Chiellini have signed up. Mata will hope to feature when United host Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday. United beat Reading 2-0 in the FA Cup last weekend, with Mata getting on the scoresheet with a penalty.
