It was Casemiro who provided it on 78 with a shot from all of 30-yards out that left keeper Tomas Vaclik with no chance. He got his fingers to the effort but they were bent back by the force and accuracy of the sensational strike. The outstanding Luka Modric added a second in injury time - his second goal in a week - and Madrid ran out comfortable winners. They had peppered Sevilla’s goal with countless chances in the second half but nothing could be Vaclick until Casemiro’s thunderous drive. A thunderbolt through the rain at the Santiago Bernabeu gave Real Madrid a well-deserved win It was Casemiro (right) who provided it in the 78th minute with a shot from all of 30-yards out Still without Gareth Bale, Marco Asensio and Toni Kroos, and with Isco still on the bench Madrid started well and Karim Benzema played in Vinicius whose shot was saved by Vaclik. Madrid were pressing high and forcing back a Sevilla side coming into the game on a run of 11 straight defeats at this stadium. Sergi Gomez elbowed Lucas Vazquez and bloodied the winger’s lip and the Sevilla’s defender’s fellow centre-half Daniel Carrico went into the book for chopping down Vinicius. Sevilla were being knocked out of their stride and their most popular avenue of attack Jesus Navas was closed off by Sergio Reguilion, in the team ahead of the dropped Marcelo, and the hard-working midfielder Dani Ceballos. Another Vinicius dribble at the heart of the Madrid defence ended with both Ceballos and Casemiro being teed-up but neither got their shot away. Sevilla finally came alive on the half hour when Wissam Ben Yedder sprinted away and played in Sergio Esucdero. The outstanding Luka Modric added a second in injury time - his second goal in a week The home side had peppered Sevilla’s goal with countless chances in the second half Thibaut Courtois, back in the team ahead of the injured Keylor Navas, stood tall and wide and and the wing-back blasted his shot into the side-netting. Sevilla were growing in confidence. Andres Silva had a header saved by Courtois after he connected with Navas’ cross. Madrid fashioned another chance but Vaclik saved from Benzema. Modric then had to have a head wound wrapped up in whte bandage when he clashed with Mudo Vazquez. The Bernabeu wanted a yellow but referee Mateu Lahoz, sporting gloves in the rain, waved away the appeals. The second half started with Sergio Ramos getting away with an arm across the face of Andre Silva. Ever Banega then went in late on Luka Modric who had downgraded his head bandage to a plaster above his cut eye. Madrid were without Gareth Bale, Marco Asensio and Toni Kroos, and Isco was on the bench It was Modric’s clever lay-off that set up Casemiro for Madrid’s first chance of the second half. He wasted the chance pulling his shot wide. Modric was the next to go close winning a corner when his shot from Carvajal’s cross was pushed away. Sevilla were now unable to get off the ropes with defenders were throwing bodies in front of shots from Modric and Reguilion. Vinicius tried an audacious chip that was only just wide. Madrid were getting closer and closer and Ceballos rattled the bar with a curling shot from distance. Lucas Vazquez then dinked a cross to Ramos who couldn’t finish and was penalized for climbing on Simon Kaer. Casemiro then headed wide from Reguilion’s cross. Sevilla threw on Quincy Promes and former Barcelona forward Munir, taking off front two Silva and Ben Yedder. Solari responded by throwing on the lesser-spotted Isco but it would be Casemiro who would win Real Madrid the game. It was his first in the league this season and surely the best he has ever scored. Modric got the second with the last kick of the game leaving Sevilla well beaten. Share or comment on this article: All rights reserved for this news site dailymail and under his responsibility
