The Football Writers' Association tribute evening was all about Gareth Southgate, but the England boss made sure to pay his respects to someone else too.

Taking to the stage at The Savoy Hotel in London, Southgate gave a speech to honour the career of Charles Sale, who recently retired after 20 years as The Daily Mail's brilliant Sports Agenda diarist.

And on top of the kind words, Southgate also passed on a special gift - the 'infamous' dartboard used for the 'Player vs Press' challenges at last summer's World Cup in Russia.

'He's retiring from his work as a journalist. He will have undoubtedly divided opinion among the room because several of us have been in his column over the years.

'Charlie Sale has definitely been a huge part of the England travelling press pack for many years.

'My biggest memory of him was playing beach cricket with him in Rimini, when he insisted on calling me by my surname for the whole match. Once a public schoolboy, always a public schoolboy.

'We thought it'd be most appropriate to present him with the infamous dartboard.'
