Mauricio Pochettino has defended his failure to win a trophy as Tottenham manager and claimed the club's stadium move has impeded the development of his team.

During a passionate defence of his four and a half years at the club, Pochettino argued that Spurs do not have a history of winning. The glory days, he said, are only to be seen on 'black and white' videos. Tottenham have won only three trophies in the past 35 years.

Spurs exited the Carabao Cup to Chelsea on penalty kicks at Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening, meaning they have now lost three consecutive domestic semi-finals under Pochettino.

Yet the Argentine has operated with by far the lowest budget of the Big Six, with a net spend of only £20million since joining the club.

Tottenham were without the injured Dele Alli and Harry Kane against Chelsea while Son Heung-min was away on international duty.

Pochettino has also had to contend with the complications of a stadium move after leaving White Hart Lane in May 2017.
