Neymar's superheroes, a gun-toting monkey, Leroy Sane's self-portrait... and an insulin pump: These are the biggest (and oddest) footballers' tattoos Neymar set tongues wagging with the latest big tattoos on his back - Spiderman and Batman His collection of tattoos is eye-opening, but he is not alone in the football world with many stars heavily inked Some of those tattoos are truly extraordinary - but you can decide whether they are good or bad! By David Kent for MailOnline Published: 22:12 GMT, 1 February 2019 | Updated: 22:12 GMT, 1 February 2019 Viewcomments Advertisement Spiderman, Batman, his mother, his sister - Neymar has had all of them tattooed onto his body to show the world who his superheroes really are. His tattoo collection is quite staggering and the same can be said for quite a number of his fellow top-level footballers. Like Neymar, their designs can be, shall we say, unusual - and very rarely are they understated. Here is a selection of some of the more remarkable artworks on display at football grounds near you... Neymar's latest huge tattoos depict superheroes Spiderman and Batman on each of his shoulder blades The Brazilian superstar also has tattoos of his mother, Nadine, on his left bicep (left) and sister, Rafaella, on his right shoulder Another giant of the game, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, has nearly his entire torso covered in tattoos, mostly names of loved ones On Ibrahimovic's back is an enormous image of a lion's face - he often refers to himself as a lion, not a human Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi has a giant lion covering his entire torso and the name of his daughter, both of which took a year to complete; his legs bear the names and faces of his two daughters, plus the times of the day they were born Lyon winger Memphis Depay is another player with a giant lion on his back - and his is even bigger than Ibrahimovic's Lionel Messi is heavily tattooed, and his left leg sleeve tattoo, made up of many smaller images, was the most prominent In 2017, however, Messi covered up the images entirely in black ink, except his son Thiago's hands, a ball and the number 10 This gun-toting monkey is the bizarre, large and unexplained tattoo on Liverpool left back Alberto Moreno's right thigh A lion is just one of the tattoos that cover Sergio Ramos's entire back, as well as a wolf, a warrior, Jesus Christ and more Leroy Sane chose to have a tattoo of himself on his back, an image of him after scoring for Man City against Monaco (right) One tattoo on Arturo Vidal's abdomen is of an insulin pump (left), which his son Alonso has to use to treat his type 1 diabetes Watford striker Andre Gray features Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and Bob Marley on the right side of his back The leg tattoo of former Chelsea midfielder Raul Meireles (left); Stephen Ireland, once of Man City, has a pair of wings Former Man United and Everton keeper Tim Howard showed off his incredible collection of tattoos during a PETA campaign against wearing mink fur; the United States international has a leg tattoo of assassinated president John F Kennedy Neck tattoos are painful and off-limits for most - but not Rajda Nainggolan, who has barely an inch of flesh not covered by ink P.S. Here's one star who doesn't want his tattoos any more! Ross Barkley's left arm was once covered in a sleeve tattoo, but the Chelsea midfielder has bucked the trend among footballers by having the entire thing removed. 'I got them at a young age and sometimes when you are young you do stupid things and not think about it. But I went into it too quick and over the years I felt I wanted to get them removed,' he said.
