Tiger Woods will play alongside Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas in an eye-catching first round group here at the Genesis Open at Riviera on Thursday - but it's long-time rival Phil Mickelson who will provide the motivation.
'Phil has been motivating me my whole career,' was Tiger's startling admission, when asked about the lefty's remarkable victory in the Pebble Beach pro-am on Monday at the age of 48.
'For 18 years we battled each other to see who was the world's best golfer and every time one of us won it motivated the other. It isn't going to stop now.'
