Reece Prescod sent out another flame-footed message to the sprinting world on Saturday by finishing second in a strong 60m field at the Muller Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham.
The fact he equalled his personal best of 6.53sec served notice of his immense potential in a long season that will culminate in the World Championships eight months from now.
But while his improvements are causing excitement among the hierarchy of British Athletics, there will be no disguising their embarrassment on Sunday when they name an incomplete sprint team for next month's European Indoor Championships in Glasgow.
