The jaw-dropping moment Rory McIlroy nearly hits a hole-in-one... on a par-FOUR in Mexico (and he didn't even need to use his driver!) Rory McIlroy leads the WGC Mexico Championship after the first round McIlroy nearly made a hole-in-one on the 1st hole at Club de Golf Chapultepec Remarkably, that hole is a par-four - but McIlroy still nearly holed his tee shot He is such a big hitter that he even used a 2-iron to fly his ball onto the green

Rory McIlroy made a remarkable statement of intent on his way to grabbing the first-round lead at the World Golf Championship in Mexico by coming inches away from a hole-in-one on a par-FOUR.
McIlroy is one shot clear of Dustin Johnson at Club de Golf Chapultepec, near Mexico City, but it could have been two had his stunning shot at the 1st hole landed a just couple of centimetres to the right.
Staggeringly, McIlroy didn't even need to hit his driver to reach the green in one shot, and was able to fly his ball fully 305 yards using just a 2-iron.
