Gareth Bale scored Real Madrid’s winner but then pushed away a team-mate trying to celebrate with him as a hugely dubious VAR decision helped his side to a 2-1 victory.
Bale had been benched again and when, on as a substitute, he stepped up to score the spot-kick he did not celebrate. Lucas Vazquez put an arm around him but Bale pushed him away.
It was Levante who should have been fuming. Cheick Doukoure fresh-air kicked in the penalty area and Casemiro threw himself down in agony. Replays suggested Doukoure had made contact neither with the ball nor the Real Madrid midfielder.

Doukoure requested the referee consult VAR. He did but the decision stood and with a hop and a skip Bale rolled the spot-kick past Andres Fernandez.
Bale’s non-celebration followed and he was not the only unhappy Madrid player. Toni Kroos had looked less than pleased when he was taken off early in the second half in an unconvincing Madrid performance.
Madrid had gone in at half time 1-0 up but from a penalty they had never asked for and despite Levante hitting the post twice.
Roger Marti was the home side's attacking culprit. A corner was flicked on by Rober Pier and Roger got ahead of Sergio Reguilon at the back post only to hit the frame of the goal with his shot. A minute later the forward was booked for kicking Dani Carvajal –
