Ajax are unwilling to allow Marc Overmars to make an emotional return to Arsenal as technical director, due to his importance to the Amsterdam club.
Overmars has been a revelation since assuming the top role at Ajax, helping the club earn a fortune from the sales of some of their top starlets - including the recent £75million switch of Frenkie De Jong.
After winning the league title with Arsenal in the 1997/98 season, Overmars has maintained strong relations with his former club, who have been keeping a close eye on his work in a senior capacity.
