Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes David de Gea will sign a new contract at Manchester United to repay the faith the club showed in him during a difficult start at Old Trafford.
United’s decision to sign De Gea from Atletico Madrid for £18.6million in 2011 was questioned in many quarters after Sir Alex Ferguson backed the judgement of his goalkeeping coach Eric Steele.
But the Spaniard has grown into arguably the best goalkeeper in the world since then and been voted United’s player of the year in four of the last five seasons.
