On Friday the head of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubilaes tweeted: 'There will be no more football on Mondays. From next season there will be football on Saturdays and Sundays. We will see what happens with Fridays. The business is important but so are the fans.' Supporters are waiting for confirmation from the Spanish League but are now hopeful that the hugely unpopular recent tradition of one fixture played at 9pm on a Monday night will be scrapped at the end of the current campaign. The Spanish Football Federation have axed Monday night La Liga games from next season Gates have suffered with the unpopular scheduling and supporters have protested the Monday night fixture for some time. Two weeks ago Alaves supporters delayed entering the stadium until five minutes after kick-off to make their point, carrying a mock coffin into the stadium and holding up a 'RIP Football' banner. At the end of last year the German Bundesliga said it would be scrapping Monday night football from the 2021-22 season but supporters have continued to protest for the change to be brought in earlier.
