RAHEEM STERLING

Lost beneath the fuss over Maurizio Sarri’s spat with his goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga at Wembley was the nature of the winning penalty. 

At the end of what had been quite an average shoot-out Sterling’s kick was as perfect it could possibly be. Sterling can have the occasional problem in front of goal but that was a superb effort under pressure.

BRENDAN RODGERS

The marriage between the Irishman and Celtic had looked in trouble for some time but there is much anger in Glasgow at his departure and much of that is because Rodgers was fond of regularly spelling out his love for club. 

Rodgers can be an engaging orator but may now know that sometimes it is possible just to say a little too much.
