Not many folk snatch attention away from the Ingebrigtsens at track meets these days, but Chris O'Hare did on Saturday night. What a stirring performance he produced for his 3,000m silver medal at the European Indoor Championships.
He couldn't catch the younger Ingebrigtsen, 18-year-old Jakob, but that has long ceased to be a reasonable aim for middle distance runners from this continent.
Instead the achievement came from how the Scot rode the noise of the crowd and drew level with Henrik Ingebrigtsen on the final bend and then got the benefit of a photofinish on the line.
Chris O'Hare captures the attention of the masses with a stirring performance in Glasgow
The big brother, it should be pointed out at this stage, is no slouch - he took silver and bronze in the past two editions of the European Indoors and in the more meaningful realms of outdoor running has four European medals from 1500m to 5000m, including gold in 2012.
So, the 28-year-old can get around a track. But here in Glasgow he was caught and passed by a Celtic fan, who somehow succeeded in drawing the limelight away from the track prodigy up ahead of him.
'The crowd threw me across the line,' he said after clocking 7:57.19, dead even with Henrik Ingebrigtsen, who had given himself a fighting chance with a swan dive at the tape.
'I knew I had it with 10m to go. But then I thought "he might have got me there" with his jump.'
