England have given the clearest indication yet they will rush Jofra Archer into their World Cup squad after pledging to pick him for their early summer one-day series against Pakistan.
Coach Trevor Bayliss wants to have a look at the exciting Archer, who qualifies for England on March 17, in international action and will effectively put him on trial in the five-match 50-over series in May against Pakistan and the one-off game in Ireland that precedes it.
England must name a provisional 15-man World Cup squad on April 23 and will almost certainly exclude Archer from that as they keep faith with the players who have taken them to the top of the world rankings despite Saturday's humiliating final one-day defeat by West Indies.
