Baseball player Mike Trout is reportedly on the verge of agreeing a staggering 12-year, £325million contract extension with the Los Angeles Angels.

It would be the largest contract in the history of American professional sports, netting 27-year-old Trout around £520,000-a-week.

Trout has been the American League Most Valuable Player twice and finished second in the MVP voting four times.

He was due to become a free agent next year but this deal would likely commit Trout to the Angels for the remainder of his career.

According to ESPN, the £27.15m Trout would receive every year tops the current average highest salary in MLB - the £25.9m-a-year earned by Zack Greinke of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

It also smashed the £248.7m deal signed by Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies earlier this month.

But how does Trout's deal compare to sport's most lucrative contracts?

1. Mike Trout, Baseball (Los Angeles Angels) - £325m

It's straight in at No 1 in the list of most lucrative sports contracts for Trout - and by a considerable margin.

2. Canelo Alvarez, Boxing (DAZN) - £275m

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez agreed his lucrative tie-up with London-based streaming service DAZN at the end of last year.

The Mexican, who holds the WBA and WBC world middleweight titles, agreed a five-year, 11-fight deal.

It will earn him over £1m-a-week for five years and there is the potential to boost that income further if he hits certain subscription targets.

3. Bryce Harper, Baseball (Philadelphia Phillies) - £248.7m

Harper finalised his new deal with the Phillies, which he will keep him there until 2031, earlier this month but the figures have been surpassed by Trout.

The 13-year contract Harper signed is worth just under £250m and contains a no-trade clause meaning he can't opt out at any point.

It will take Harper up to the age of 39, likely the remainder of his career.
