The Uruguayan arrived in north London from Sampdoria last summer and has impressed at the heart of midfield for Unai Emery's side. Torreira has helped the Gunners move firmly into contention for a place in the Champions League next season as well as the Europa League quarter-finals. Lucas Torreira was pictured leaving for international duty with Uruguay on Monday His father believes he could move back to Italy in the future after joining from Sampdoria Despite a promising start to life in England, Torreira's dad, Ricardo, has revealed that his son came extremely close to signing for Napoli before talks broke down in the summer. 'It's true, Lucas was very close to Napoli,' he said to Radio Marte. 'There were negotiations with Napoli, but something strange happened, and you know in the transfer market things can change from one moment to the next. 'Negotiations are long and complicated processes, so it can happen than they don't go the way we expected. 'There was this opportunity to go to England and Lucas took it, so I have to say he is happy at Arsenal.' The 23-year-old has played in 29 of Arsenal's 30 Premier League matches this season but his dad hinted he may be keen to move to Napoli if the prospect of a move materialised again. The Arsenal midfielder has been working hard in training ahead of the 2019 China Cup Torreira is in the midst of a three-match suspension and will miss Arsenal's next two games He added: 'Obviously, Lucas is very fond of Italian football, where he grew up, and might return to Italy in future. 'You can never say never, so it's possible he could come back to this marvellous country and, why not to Napoli or another club that makes an offer?' Torreira is in the midst of a three-match suspension after the appeal to the FA over his red card against Tottenham was rejected. Following the decision, Torreira was banned for the victory over Manchester United and he will also miss the home game with Newcastle on April 1 and the trip to Everton on April 7.
