By the measurement of huge audiences both live in the arenas and watching on television that is certainly accurate.

By gauging the cross-over interest from hard-core boxing fans to a wider public, remarkably so.

By the calculation of some enormous purses rising into mega-millions, phenomenal.

By the numbers of active fighters as well as the record annual total of promotions on which they are appearing, overwhelmingly self-evident.

But by this country's tally of world champions, valid only if you count historic back by little more than a year.

It is no longer than some 18 months since Britain boasted more world champions than America and the combined ring forces of Japan and Mexico.
