'A decision has to be made to ensure they get over the line': Jermaine Jenas calls on Tottenham to drop captain Hugo Lloris for the sake of their season Hugo Lloris made an error which led to Liverpool's winner against Tottenham He failed to hold a tame Mo Salah header before Toby Alderweireld's own goal Ex-Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas thinks the goalkeeper should be dropped Jenas says Paulo Gazzaniga should replace Lloris to help Spurs 'get over the line'By Robert Summerscales For Mailonline Published: 23:49 BST, 31 March 2019 | Updated: 23:50 BST, 31 March 2019 Viewcomments Jermaine Jenas believes the time has come for Tottenham to drop goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris following his mistake during Sunday's 2-1 defeat at Anfield. A handling error in the last minute allowed Liverpool to steal victory after Spurs had been the better side in the second half. It was not the first time Lloris has slipped up this season — with high-profile errors coming against Barcelona and PSV — and former Spurs midfielder Jenas thinks back-up keeper Paulo Gazzaniga should be promoted to first choice. Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris made a costly mistake as Tottenham lost 2-1 at Liverpool on Sunday Lloris failed to hold onto a tame Mo Salah header and the ball was in his net moments later The loose ball hit Toby Alderweireld (right) and was bundled into the net in the final minute 'Every time I watch Gazzaniga play, he's playing very well,' Jenas told BBC Match of the Day. 'If you're Gazzaniga now, you're going: "It's time for me to get my opportunity". And I think he should do.' Gazzaniga, 27, has made 10 Spurs appearances this season, including two in the Premier League when Lloris was unavailable in September. Lloris is much more experienced than Gazzaniga, but Jenas fears that the Frenchman's poor form could cost Spurs a place in the top four if manager Mauricio Pochettino doesn't make a change. Jenas said: 'I think he's had a difficult couple of seasons. I don't think it's one season. 'He's 32 years of age, he's a World Cup winner. He was at the club when I was there in 2012. He should be at the peak of his powers right now. But if anything he looks more nervous now than he did when he turned up at the club. 'We go through it (bad form) as players, but a decision has to be made to ensure they get over the line.' Spurs have seven Premier League matches left to play — five of which will take place at their new stadium. Sunday's defeat at Liverpool left Pochettino's side level on points with fourth-placed Manchester United and just one above Arsenal, who play their game in hand at home to Newcastle on Monday night.
