Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has revealed he told Danny Drinkwater in August that he would not play during his reign as manager and insists there is nothing he can do to help the midfielder.
Drinkwater has been charged with drink driving this week after he was arrested when a Range Rover crashed in Cheshire in the early hours of Monday. Cheshire Police said two women and a woman were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Drinkwater, 29, will appear at Stockport Magistrates Court on May 13.

After signing in a £35m transfer from Leicester, Drinkwater played 22 times for Chelsea under Antonio Conte but he has been cut adrift by Maurizio Sarri this season and has appeared only for half-an-hour in the Community Shield defeat by Manchester City.
Sarri insists he has a good relationship with Drinkwater, who regularly trains with the first-team squad but the Italian is still to speak to him following his arrest this week.
When the first team squad is away, Drinkwater is demoted a couple of times a month to train with the club's U23s team.
