Archer, 24, will face Ireland and Pakistan next month and, unless something goes drastically wrong, is then expected to be named in England's final World Cup squad on May 22. But for now he insists the World Cup is not on his mind and is instead grateful the ECB changed their qualification rules from seven years residency in England to three just in time for him to be available for the dual huge challenges ahead. 'I didn't expect to ever be good enough to play for England until the last couple of years and it's been a whirlwind period for me. 'It's hard to put my feelings into words. I thought I would have to wait another couple of years to be in contention for the full squad, I thought I would have to play for the Lions or something like that, so when Ed Smith called I was honestly surprised. 'I was fully prepared in my mind that my qualification period was going to be a seven-year job so when I found out I was qualified more quickly it was a bit of a shock but exciting. The goal never changed. - to play for England whenever I was eligible.
