MMA fighter Darren Till has been fined more than £700 by a Spanish court after being convicted of trashing a hotel with four British holiday pals and 'stealing' a taxi.

The Liverpool-born 26-year-old and his tourist friends have also been ordered to pay more than £8,500 in compensation to the hotel they vandalised.

The five Brits appeared in court in the town of Arona in the south of Tenerife on Saturday after being held by police for nearly two days following their 8am arrests last Thursday.

The detentions happened after a taxi driver told police two men including a holidaymaker later identified as Till had jumped in his taxi and driven off as he loaded their luggage into the boot.

Police stopped the Volkswagen Caddy shortly afterwards.

Well placed sources named the hotel on Monday as La Plantacion del Sur, a colonial Canarian-style five star hotel near Bahia del Duque beach which is a 20-minute drive from Tenerife South Airport.
