James Milner will break the habit of a lifetime and become a Manchester United fan for one night only – but will draw the line at watching them play.

As someone who grew up in Leeds and counts his hometown team, along with Liverpool and Manchester City as clubs for whom he has played, the idea of wanting a home victory at Old Trafford is as far removed from anything Milner could imagine.

But the simple fact is Liverpool need United – who are at their lowest ebb of the campaign – to do them a favour on Wednesday by stopping City’s 10 game winning spree, if Jurgen Klopp’s squad are going to reclaim control of the race for the Premier League.
