Gary Neville has compared the problems in the Manchester United dressing-room to Japanese knotweed after the club's alarming slump continued with an embarrassing defeat at Everton.
'It's attacking the foundations of the house and it needs dealing with properly,' said Neville of a squad that miraculously found — then lost — their form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The blame has shifted from the manager to United's under-achieving stars and Solskjaer has warned that changes are imminent.

David de Gea's form has dipped and he no longer looks worthy of a £400,000-a-week deal
David de Gea
United's saviour for so long in the post-Ferguson era, De Gea's form has dipped this season and he no longer looks like a goalkeeper worthy of a new £400,000-a-week contract.
The club are prepared for talks to continue into the final year of De Gea's contract even though he could leave for nothing.
EXIT RATING: 3/5
Antonio Valencia
The club captain has not been seen since the second day of the year. Fitness issues have caught up with Valencia after a decade at Old Trafford and he will go this summer.
EXIT RATING: 5/5
Ashley Young
Taken apart by Lionel Messi in the Nou Camp last Tuesday and dropped at Everton on Sunday, it has been a bad week for Young.
A solid captain and proud professional but, at 33, his recent 12-month contract extension is likely to be the last.
EXIT RATING: 4/5
Ashley Young was taken apart by Lionel Messi and was dropped at Everton on Sunday
Diogo Dalot
The progress of the £19million summer signing has stalled over the last few games.
United will hope it is only a blip but signing another right back is one of the club's priorities.
EXIT RATING: 2/5
Matteo Darmian
After six appearances this season, the former Torino defender must be wondering why United refused to grant his wish to return to Italy last summer and then gave him a 12-month contract extension. The club are unlikely to hold on to him again.
EXIT RATING: 4/5
Victor Lindelof
United's most improved player under Solskjaer but was switched to full back against Barcelona and Everton and suffered for it.
Destined to be the club's first-choice central defender. The big question is who will partner him.
EXIT RATING: 1/5
Victor Lindelof has been Manchester United's most improved under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Eric Bailly
Not been seen since he was hauled off against Paris Saint-Germain in early March. A head injury suffered playing for the Ivory Coast last month has held Bailly back, and he could easily move at the end of the season.
EXIT RATING: 4/5
Chris Smalling
Signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract in December but continues to be held up as an example of a stagnating squad at Old Trafford.
A good athlete but fans will continue to question whether he is in the world-class bracket of former United centre backs.
EXIT RATING: 3/5
Chris Smalling continues to be held up as an example of a stagnating squad at Old Trafford
Phil Jones
Like Smalling, Jones was awarded a new long-term contract in February despite concerns over his ability at the highest level.
Like Young, he was ruthlessly exposed by Messi. An honest pro but can be injury prone.
EXIT RATING: 3/5
Marcos Rojo
The Argentine has made just seven appearances due to injury since signing a new £160,000-a-week contract in March 2018. Touted to Everton last summer and his future at United is under scrutiny again 12 months on.
