Hughes was kicked in the face when his mount Bingo D'Olivate fell while in contention to win a handicap hurdle. He missed the Scottish National meeting at Ayr, is out of this week's Perth Festival and will also sit out the final day of the season at Sandown. Top jump jockey Brian Hughes had been enjoying his best season with 147 winners Richard Hale, Hughes's agent, said: 'It was a nasty injury. He had to have his teeth re-set — they were all over the place. 'His wife had a baby on the same day, so rather than rush back, he decided to take a break. As long as he is cleared by the doctors he will come back a week on Saturday.' Hughes had been enjoying his best season with 147 winners, third in the jockey table behind Harry Skelton (177) and Richard Johnson (198). Johnson, who will be crowned champion jockey for the fourth time, has five rides at Perth on Friday as he seeks to hit a double century of winners in a season for only the second time.
