Godolphin trainer Saeed Bin Suroor has high hopes for Royal Marine in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket Nineteen horses have been declared for the 2,000 Guineas on Saturday The highly-rated two-year-old finished fourth in the Craven Stakes last month Trainer Bin Suroor is hoping for some rain to enhance the claims of Royal MarineBy Marcus Townend for MailOnline Published: 18:59 BST, 2 May 2019 | Updated: 18:59 BST, 2 May 2019 Viewcomments Saeed Bin Suroor says that Royal Marine can step up on his disappointing comeback run as he tries to give the trainer a third win in the Qipco 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday. Bin Suroor won the Classic for the first time in 1996 with Mark of Esteem. His second won was 20 years ago with Island Sands. Group One winning two-year-old Royal Marine, the mount of Christophe Soumillon, was made favourite for his comeback in the Craven Stakes at Newmarket last month but failed to settle and could only finish fourth to Skardu, who he faces again. Saeed Bin Suroor is seeking a third victory in the 2,000 Guineas with Royal Marine (above) Bin Suroor said: 'Royal Marine is better than what he showed in the Craven Stakes. He was too keen that day, then was stuck in behind horses and couldn't find any room. 'He has come back from the run very well, did his last piece of work on Monday, and will run in the 2,000 Guineas equipped with a hood for the first time which should help him relax. 'I am sure that there will be a strong pace, which will suit him, and any rain that we happen to get over the next couple of days should also be in his favour. 'Winning the Guineas again would mean a lot. The Classics are the five best races of the year, they are great races to be involved in, and very few trainers get the chance to win them.' Nineteen horses have been declared for the 2,000 Guineas. The 4-1 joint favourites with Coral are the Aidan O'Brien-trained pair Ten Sovereigns, winner of the Middle Park Stakes last year, and Magna Grecia, successful in 2018 Vertem Futurity Trophy. Ten Sovereigns had been weak in the betting but his price shortened when it was confirmed that he will be riddebn by Ryan Moore. Donnacha O'Brien rides Magna Grecia.
