It is indisputable that Spurs have lost speed on their approach to the line, with eight defeats in the past 14 games in all competitions.

That run includes Tuesday’s underwhelming first leg loss against Ajax in the Champions semi-final, but irrespective of how that tie is resolved on Wednesday, Tottenham’s season could be defined on Saturday at Bournemouth.

Pochettino was quick to draw on that point ahead of Saturday’s fixture, recalling the gloomy prognosis of last summer: ‘In that moment, that period 10 months ago, it was difficult to guess.
