This was a fourth game without a win and one of the most damaging of the lot. Not because it mattered – it was a dead rubber, after all – but because of the nature of the opposition. Ipswich scored three at home for the first time this season, had last won at Bolton in early April and finish bottom of a division Leeds had topped at Christmas. No 45 Collin Quaner celebrated with his team-mates after scoring a late winner against Leeds No 7 Kemar Roofe lay on the floor looking dejected after missed a penalty for Leeds at 2-2 Even the goalscorers were not exactly potent before Sunday. Flynn Downes’ first-half poke home was his first in an Ipswich shirt, while Andre Dozzell bagged his first since his debut three years ago. Collin Quaner, the matchwinner, scored just his fourth of the season. The real problem, though, is that his team have forgotten how to defend. A quick passing move set up Dozzell for Town’s second just after the break and even for a man who does not score often, it was almost impossible for him to not convert with Stuart Dallas acres up the field. The return of top goalscorer Kemar Roofe to the Leeds side did not exactly have the desired effect. He even slipped when taking a 82nd-minute penalty, a chance to cap a trip to East Anglia off with three points passing them by. Then Quaner sent them home with nothing. That was the conclusion but before then, Leeds had struggled to get going. They had early opportunities, Roofe, Stuart Dallas and Pablo Hernandez all spurning them. Then a hopeful Ipswich pass in the 24th minute saw Kiko Casilla come dashing out of his net. Colin Quaner got to the ball first and knocked it past the Spaniard. Quaner went flying and Casilla was lucky to only see yellow. Luke Chambers was shown a red card after fouling Roofe and conceding the spot kick Roofe slipped and skied his effort from 12 yards on what was yet another bad day for Leeds Not that that mattered when Alan Judge’s resultant free-kick was swung in and there was chaos in the Leeds box. Eventually it dropped for Downes, who fired in. Leeds were suddenly second to everything. Then an Adam Forshaw pass out wide found Ayling, who cut the ball back to the edge of the box. Klich just had to finish into the bottom corner to level the game just before half-time. Ipswich came out firing though. Leeds were completely carved open and when Andre Dozzell picked up the ball on the right of the box, it was not much of a task for him to fire past Casilla and into the bottom corner. Leeds did respond. When Dallas met a rebound off the crossbar and chested in, it was probably what they had deserved. It even seemed like Leeds would win it after Luke Chambers was sent off for pulling Roofe back in the box. But then came Roofe’s slip, Ayling’s mix up with Casilla and Quaner’s winner. Leeds were easily the division’s best side at one stage this campaign. Now they cannot even overcome the worst.
