Danny Cipriani was acclaimed as the players' Player of the Year at Twickenham on Wednesday and his feats on behalf of Gloucester this season have thrust him back into World Cup contention.
The 31-year-old fly-half collected the top prize at the Rugby Players' Association's annual awards ceremony, having finished first in a poll of Premiership players.
Cipriani described it as a 'humbling' honour, but what he really covets is the chance to force his way into England's World Cup squad - and there may just be a faint glimmer of hope in that regard, with time running out.

Last June, his creative class helped the national team beat South Africa in Cape Town. Yet, although he marked his return to the Red Rose No 10 shirt, for the first time in a decade, by setting up Jonny May's decisive try, Cipriani has not been involved with England since.
Throughout a season of dazzling consistency, he has been overlooked for international selection despite inspiring Gloucester's charge into the Premiership play-offs, for the first time in eight years.
Sportsmail understands that the England hierarchy still harbour doubts about his defensive work, but Cipriani is thought to be
