Jed Steer has revealed how Aston Villa replicated England during the shootout that took Dean Smith's team to Wembley.

Smith had his squad practising penalties since their play-off place was secure and made sure that one detail included Steer passing the ball to the next Villa taker.

Jordan Pickford did the same during the dramatic win over Colombia in last year's World Cup, and Steer said: 'Apparently there's a study that shows that if the goalkeeper passes the ball to their own player that he has more chance of scoring. So that was part of the routine. Hopefully it works in future games.
