While the Blues comfortably won the match 3-0 on Wednesday, the evening was marred by Loftus-Cheek's injury which he picked up just 20 minutes after coming on as a substitute at half-time. The 23-year-old was helped off the pitch and back to the dressing room by two of the medical team and left the Gillette Stadium on crutches with his left foot in a protective boot. The news has infuriated Blues supporters who took to social media to voice their anger at playing the 'pointless friendly' in the first place. One Chelsea fan insisted that Loftus-Cheek was the one player aside from Eden Hazard that the team 'couldn't afford to lose' ahead of their European final against the Gunners. Another commented on how the game should've been 'cancelled' after Chelsea confirmed their place in the Europa League final. They said: 'Most ridiculous occasion to be putting the players into a huge game coming up. This game should've been cancelled the second we made the final.' One disgruntled Blues supporter hit out at the club by labelling them as a 'joke'. 'Joke club, travelling across the world for a damn friendly before a cup final. Ridiculously unprofessional.' Chelsea are already without starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi who suffered a ruptured achilles tendon against Burnley last month. He is expected to miss up to six months worth of action.
