Former New Zealand captain and Wigan star Quentin Pongia dies aged 48 after long battle with cancer Quentin Pongia played 35 times for New Zealand including 1995 World Cup  He was a finalist in Super League with Wigan and played for a number of clubs   Pongia moved into coaching and was recently part of Manly's backroom staff

Former New Zealand captain Quentin Pongia, who was a Super League Grand Finalist with Wigan, has died at the age of 48.

Pongia, who won 35 caps for the Kiwis from 1992-2000 and played in the 1995 World Cup, passed away in his home country after losing a long battle with cancer.

The news was announced by Canberra, for whom Pongia played 74 times from 1993-1997 and was a key member of their 1994 Premiership-winning team.
