Almost out of the blue Jo Konta has produced her best form since she reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon two summers ago.

The British No 1 is through to the final of the prestigious Italian Open after beating Holland's hugely in-form Kiki Bertens 5-7 7-5 6-2 in two hours and 49 minutes of aggressive clay court combat.

Remarkably, Konta has never even won a main draw match at the French Open, but on Sunday she could win one of the biggest titles on the brown dirt if she can beat either fourth seed Karolina Pliskova or Greece's Maria Sakkari.
