A statue of the Manchester United legend has been erected outside Windsor Park in Belfast and was presented by Pat Jennings and Gerry Armstrong on what would have been his 73rd birthday. Best, who made over 350 appearances and scored more than 100 goals for the Red Devils, died in 2005 at the age of 59 and his homeland have now attempted to pay tribute to him. A sculpture of football legend George Best unveiled on Wednesday has drawn mixed reviews Pat Jennings (left) and Gerry Armstrong (right) did the unveiling just outside Windsor Park The statue attracted poor reviews on social media with some fans taking aim at the sculptor However, the statue attracted outrage on social media with some fans claiming it looked nothing like Best. @Mooreso1981 wrote: 'They should have tried to make it look like him. Would have been better'. There were even some comparisons to a Hollywood actor. @silvergellar quipped: 'Think you've put one up of Kevin Bacon rather than George Best!'. It even drew comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo's infamous statue in Madeira. @ARathcoole tweeted: 'Did they use the same guy who done the Ronaldo statue?'. Cristiano Ronaldo has also been on the receiving end of a woeful statue in recent memory The Portuguese star was also on the receiving end of a poor statue when a disastrous sculpture was placed at the airport re-named after him. The bust, designed by sculptor Emanuel Santos, almost broke the internet - with many pointing out that it looked more like Niall Quinn than the great man himself. Argentina icon Diego Maradona also had a questionable monument erected in his name, with the face more closely resembling Susan Boyle according to some commentators. Perhaps the most bizarre football statue of all though was the one of Michael Jackson displayed outside of Fulham's Craven Cottage. It was placed there by former owner Mohamed Al Fayed, who was close to the singer before he passed away, but now resides in the National Football Museum in Manchester.
