World Rugby have pledged an extra £1billion in a desperate bid to salvage their Nations Championship concept and avert the threat of the Six Nations doing their own separate rights deal.

At a meeting of the global governing body's council in Dublin on Wednesday, revised proposals were put forward, revealing enhanced financial terms.

There is now a commitment to deliver a deal worth £377million per year and a total of £6.2billion over the initial 12-year period for their project designed to align the international game in the northern and southern hemispheres.
