As the controversy over Katie Boulter’s predictable withdrawal, and the £20,000 that came with it, rumbled on, Konta pointed out that her Fed Cup team-mate had, technically, done nothing wrong.
‘I think what she did was perfectly within the rules, as far as I understand them,’ said the British No 1. ‘I think that’s why we have the rule change, for the players that are hurt to have the freedom to be able to pull out, and still feel they are not losing out on income.’
