The 28-year-old retired from Test rugby last year and will return to Twickenham next Sunday in a Barbarians jersey. Marler’s impressive club form, coupled with an injury to fellow prop Mako Vunipola, have prompted calls for a return to the England fold. Joe Marler retired from Test rugby last year and will line up against England at Twickenham But Marler claims he would only fly out to Japan for his country if two of Vunipola, Ellis Genge or Ben Moon were ruled out. He told the Gain Line: ‘If there was an injury crisis and two out of the three props went down then I’d make myself available to help them out if needed. But they don’t have an injury crisis and Mako will be fine, so as things stand I’m retired.’ ‘Speaking about his BaaBaas call-up to face England, he added: ‘It will be a bit weird being on the other team but I’m sure it will be enjoyable, especially if a couple of Quins boys play. I take my fancy dress very seriously, too, so I’ve got a couple of movie-quality costumes ready for nights out.’ The BaaBaas will have an 1890s Victorian theme for their infamous midweek fancy dress party. Pat Lam has based the theme around the year that the invitational team were founded. Last year the squad had a 1970s theme that saw Chris Ashton style himself as a hippy and Finn Russell as Austin Powers. The struggling club held a widespread strategic review through former Cricket Australia performance manager Pat Howard. Poor recruitment has been one issue so McGinty, who has worked for Scotland and Worcester, has been drafted after attending last week’s defeat by Bath.
