'I am sure he will move to Munich': Lothar Matthaus confident Leroy Sane will leave Manchester City for Bayern this summer Lothar Matthaus is confident Bayern Munich can sign Leroy Sane this summer The German winger is of interest as the Bundesliga champions plot an overhaul Sane has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester City and could depart Bayern need wingers to replace the departing Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery By Nathan Salt For Mailonline Published: 06:20 BST, 27 May 2019 | Updated: 06:22 BST, 27 May 2019 Viewcomments Manchester City's Leroy Sane will make the move to Bayern Munich this summer, according to Lothar Matthaus. The Bundesliga champions hold an interest in the German winger as they look to replace the departing Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery. Former Bayern Munich star Matthaus, writing in his column for Sky, is growing more and more confident that his old side will get the deal over the line this summer. Leroy Sane (right) will leave Manchester City for Bayern Munich, according to Lothar Matthaus The former Bayern and Germany great, pictured in the 1999 anniversary game, is confident 'A player who, in my eyes, will enchant the Bayern fans next year is Leroy Sane. I am sure he will move to Munich,' Matthaus said. 'If (Bayern president) Uli Hoeness publicly reveals that it makes an effort for the player, this lands in the vast majority of cases in Bavaria. 'And it would be a fantastic transfer, as Sane is one of the best wingers out there. Tricky, dangerous for goal, fast, usable on both wings and provided with a great future.' Sane has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester City and Bayern remain interested Despite retaining their league title this season, Niko Kovac is keen to freshen up his squad this summer with moves for 23-year-old pair Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez already agreed. Borussia Dortmund put up a real fight domestically and the Bavarian giants are keen to avoid further complacency as they plot a major overhaul of an ageing side. Sane, also 23, is contracted at City until 2021 but is believed to have become disillusioned with his limited starts in Manchester. The pacey winger has impressed in spells but now plays second fiddle to the likes of Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva. During Pep Guardiola's first title win of the 2017-18 season Sane was a stand-out player on the flank, and won the PFA Young Player of the Season. Despite his peripheral role at City, Bayern would not be able to pick Sane up too cheaply. Sportsmail reported that Manchester City would likely demand upwards of £90million when Bayern open talks this summer.
