sport news No surprise Jofra Archer has got England firing at the World Cup

The early punches in this World Cup have been thrown, so how are things shaping up after 11 days of competition?

Sportsmail's Jason Gillespie reflects on the talking points so far...

I'm putting my Sussex hat on here but no one at the club has been surprised by Archer's impact for England. He has added another dimension to the attack.

He gives you that extra bite, pace, and X-factor. No doubt other teams will have taken notice. England were already a very strong team, particularly in these conditions, and he is complementing that beautifully.

Looking ahead to the Ashes, I can tell you people at Sussex strongly believe that the longer game is Jofra's best format. He is a pretty special cricketer and someone who likes to influence a game.

This is where strong leadership comes to the fore. Some teams might have gone a little more conservative after a defeat but they have a belief in how they go about their work and it would have surprised me if they had changed their approach against Bangladesh.

Top four is wide open

What should not surprise us is how Pakistan find a way immediately after everyone has written them off.

The raw skill their players have — and an ability to work together when it looks like they are gone — always gives them a chance.

After the defeat by West Indies they were cast as a rabble, tipped for a group-stage exit and yet next thing
