sport news Jason Roy and Jofra Archer favourites to open with bat and ball in the Ashes

It was the day England's World Cup campaign was put firmly back on track after the nerves and niggles of Trent Bridge.

And, perhaps even more significantly, it was the day England discovered beyond question their new opening batsman and bowler for the Ashes.

There is little doubt now Jason Roy will walk out alongside his Surrey team-mate Rory Burns at Edgbaston to open the batting against Australia in the first Test in August.
