Either Paul Pogba or Christian Eriksen are expected to complete Real Madrid's lavish summer spending spree.

The Spanish giants have already welcomed Luka Jovic and Eden Hazard among others to the Bernabeu but now want to bring in a central midfielder to complete their squad overhaul.

With both the club and manager Zinedine Zidane still weighing up which player is the right fit, Sportsmail looks at what both can bring.

What do the stats say?

Over the course of the 2018-19 Premier League season both men played 35 games (although Pogba played around 250 minutes more) and the Frenchman comes out on top statistically.

The Manchester United midfielder scored 13 goals, compared to Eriksen's eight, and boasted a better goal contribution figure. The Dane provided 12 assists as Pogba set up nine goals but his superiority in front of goal left Pogba two ahead.

Pogba also finished way above his rival in successful dribbles, number of passes, passing accuracy, tackles, interceptions and duel success. He could be the combative, forward-thinking midfielder Real are lacking.

If there is one area where Eriksen surpasses Pogba it is dictating the flow of a game. He created 18 more chances than the Frenchman did over the course of the season.

Influence on the dressing room

It is well-known that Pogba is a dominating figure in the United dressing room and his clique of unhappy players eventually managed to get their way in the feud with Jose Mourinho last year.
