Ben Stokes believes the legacy of the brawl in Bristol that threatened his career will always be with him but he has nothing to prove as he continues to restore his reputation at this World Cup as England's talisman.
Stokes has so far produced his best all-round cricket in this tournament since the infamous incident 18 months ago that led to him facing criminal charges, notably with a masterful all-round performance in the opening victory over South Africa.
But he believes he will never shake off the damage that came with his involvement in such an unsavoury incident, even though he was found not guilty of affray in Bristol.
