Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly approved a £7million proposal to build a new school in Dagestan to be named after reigning UFC lightweight world champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The 30-year-old, who recently signed a lucrative new multi-fight deal with the UFC, was personally congratulated by Putin last year following his brutal victory over Conor McGregor.

Khabib's father, Abdulmanap, claimed his son asked Putin if it would be possible to plough extra funds into the education system in Dagestan - where the UFC star was born - during last year's meeting.
