France took a big step towards the last 16 of the Women's World Cup by beating Norway on Wednesday night, but only after Wendie Renard had comically put through her own net.

Valerie Gauvin had given the hosts the lead after half-time but it was less than 10 minutes later when Renard, attempting to put Isabell Herlovsen's cross out for a corner, instead found her own net

The Lyon centre-back had time to clear with either foot, but instead of finding touch with her right foot the ball watched on in horror as the ball nestled into the bottom corner.
