Francesca Cumani's guide to Royal Ascot: Laurens the value pick to get punters off to a flying start Laurens can build on her impressive comeback in the Queen Anne Stakes Sea of Class takes on rivals Crystal Ocean and Magical in a very hot race Trainer Charlie Hills has unearthed another sprinting talent in KhaademBy Francesca Cumani Published: 22:05 BST, 15 June 2019 | Updated: 22:05 BST, 15 June 2019 Viewcomments ITV presenter Francesca Cumani will be part of the ITV Racing team who will bring coverage of every day of royal meeting this week. DAY ONE — TUES, JUNE 18 I’m a diehard fan of LAURENS and would love to see her win the opening Queen Anne Stakes. She should have come on a lot for her comeback second in the Lockinge at Newbury and looks good value at 7-1. The time experts are very excited about the winning debut of Coventry Stakes hope VISINARI. He won the same Newmarket race as Calyx did before he won last year’s Coventry. BATTAASH is my pick in the King’s Stand Stakes. Laurens can build on her impressive comeback in the Queen Anne Stake on Tuesday DAY TWO — WED, JUNE 19 I am excited to see SEA OF CLASS back in action in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes. It looks a very hot race with Crystal Ocean and Magical in opposition, but Sea of Class did a lot in a short time last year, including a phenomenal second to Enable in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. She should be bigger and stronger this season. Keep an eye out for NATE THE GREAT in the Queen’s Vase. DAY THREE — THURS, JUNE 20 There will be a lot of focus on Frankie Dettori and Stradivarius in the Gold Cup after their victory in the race last year, but CROSS COUNTER looks a bit of a forgotten horse. He beat another rival, Dee Ex Bee, at Glorious Goodwood last year and then went on his travels, winning the Melbourne Cup and the Dubai Gold Cup. DAY FOUR — FRI, JUNE 21 The feature race is the Coronation Stakes featuring English and Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Hermosa but the runner I am looking out for is KHAADEM in the Commonwealth Cup. His trainer, Charlie Hills, won the inaugural running of this race in 2015 with Muhaarar and, in Khaadem, he has unearthed another sprinting talent. DAY FIVE — SAT, JUNE 22 MASAR has not run since winning last year’s Derby at Epsom because of injury but the Charlie Appleby-trained fouryear- old will be a fascinating runner and the focus of attention when making his racing return in the Hardwicke Stakes.
