Dart, 22, teamed up with the 39-year-old seven-time Grand Slam winner and they took the opening set 6-4 from Nadiia Kichenok of Ukraine and American Abigail Spears on Monday. They lost the second set 7-6, however, before going down 10-7 in a deciding match tie-break. Harriet Dart and Venus Williams suffered a first-round defeat at the Nature Valley Classic Dart said: ‘I was a little bit nervous but it was such an amazing experience and something I’ll treasure for the rest of my life. ‘It’s great to learn from someone like her — she’s just an incredible champion.’ Despite the defeat, Dart will have found the experience invaluable. She faces world No 43 Yulia Putintseva — who won last month’s Nuremberg Cup — of Kazakhstan on Tuesday in the first round of the singles.
