There were no signs of a French Open hangover from Johanna Konta as the British No 1 returned to winning ways, then reaffirmed her desire for Grand Slam glory.
Appearing for the first time since her semi-final defeat in Paris, Konta beat Anett Kontaveit of Estonia 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 12 minutes in Birmingham.
It was Konta’s first taste of grass ahead of Wimbledon and the 2017 All England Club semi-finalist spoke afterwards about how she rebooted following her French Open heartache.

She took four days off in total but did not spend it dwelling on the what-ifs. Instead, the 28-year-old focused on the positives from her Parisian near-miss.
‘I thought I did a good job at digesting the good things that I did and learning from the things I want to do more of, or differently next time,’ said Konta.
‘I definitely think about lifting the big trophies and I dream about winning Slams. I think about that all the time.
‘I started playing when I was a little girl because I dreamt of being No 1 in the world and winning Grand Slams and that is still why I play.’
