sport news Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is building his new-look around youth ...

Manchester United are heading back to the future next season – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to build a new team based on youthful energy like Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson did in the past.

Expensive big hitters Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez look on the way out. In their place, whizzkid winger Daniel James has already been signed, England under 21 defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka looks on the way and 21-year-old local lad Marcus Rashford is set to be the 'star' of the team should Pogba join Real Madrid.

We've had the Busby Babes and Fergie's fledglings. This is how Solskjaer's students could line up in 2019-20....

MICHAEL MAIGNAN (age 23)

United still hope to get David de Gea to sign a new contract but if the Spaniard doesn't, Lille's £30million goalkeeper Maignan is the one they want.

Maignan kept 15 clean sheets last season to help his side qualify for the Champions League and was voted the best 'keeper in Ligue 1.

It's form that has seen him promoted to the full French squad by Didier Deschamps.

AARON WAN-BISSAKA (age 21)

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a big fan of the Crystal Palace right-back who excels at one-on-one defending.

Though United and Palace varied in their valuation of the England under 21 defender, the good personal relationship between Palace chairman Steve Parrish and United executive Ed Woodward raises hopes a compromise can be reached around the £50million mark.

Wan-Bissaka can get forward too, but without exposing the side's defence.

PRESNEL KIMPEMBE (age 23)

French international who is already part of Manchester United folklore – it was his late handball that controversially allowed United to beat PSG in last season's Champions League and earn Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the manager's job on a full-time basis.

Now Kimpembe is on the shortlist to solve United's problems in the heart of defence.

An accomplished French international, he'd be £40million cheaper than Harry Maguire, and a better bet than Chris Smalling, Phil Jones or Eric Bailly

VICTOR LINDELOF (age 24)

Swedish international whose second season at Old Trafford was so much better than his first.

Went from fourth-choice centre-back after his early struggles to the first name on the teamsheet, both for Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Defensively commanding, he was regarded as good enough on the ball to play on either the right or left side of United's back four.

LUKE SHAW (age 23)

Seemed certain to leave Old Trafford at one stage having been heavily criticised by Jose Mourinho but recovered last season to be voted the player of the year and signed a new contract.

Initially struggled to find his best form after a badly-broken leg against PSV but has time on his side to give United's left-hand side the energy that Andy Robertson provides at Liverpool.

Despite his experience, he went to the World Cup back in 2014, he is more than a year younger than Robertson.
